Product Documentation

This section of the Reference document guides you through the installation of the Key Custodian SetPIN Tool (KCSPTool) and the Domain Administration Console Tool (DACTool) on the Microsoft Windows platform.

While these tools are always available on the SKLES appliance itself, more often than not, the SKLES is installed in a “ lights-out” , remote data-center that is physically inaccessible to the Key Custodians and Administrators who need to interact with it. To support remote connections for these groups of people, StrongAuth supports the use of the KCSPTool and the DACTool on Microsoft Window's-based computers so they may use these tools locally on their PCs while performing their tasks securely on the SKLES. More details on these tools are described in Chapter 5 – Domain Administration Console Tool and in Chapter 7 – Key Custodian SetPIN Tool.

Prerequisites for the installation of these tools on Windows are:

  • Microsoft Windows XP SP3 or greater; Vista or Windows7
  • Java Development Kit (JDK) 6 Update 22 or greater
  • Administrator privilege on the Windows PC to install/uninstall software

The JRE is insufficient for the tasks described below; the PC must have the full JDK, with its accompanying tools, to install the KCSPTool and the DACTool successfully.

Some PCs may have other Java applications installed on them that might require a specific version of the JDK on their PC. Unless the installed version of the JDK also happens to meet the above-mentioned requirements for the SKLES tools, you must install the version of the JDK software specified above.

Finally, if there is a different version of the JDK/JRE already installed on the PC, you must be careful in recognizing the version of JDK you are interacting with; Windows creates a symbolic link to the Java executables which always point to the first version of Java installed on the PC, regardless of the installation of subsequent versions. If you have another version of the JDK on your PC that must remain for other applications, please pay attention to the steps for modifying your batch files to point to the specific JDK required for the KCSPTool and the DACTool.
