Loading a PKCS#12 file (.pfx) with YubiKey

To load a PKCS#12 file into a YubiKey, you must use the YubiKey Authenticator.

  1. Start up the YubiKey Authenticator application. If a YubiKey is inserted, it will show the information of the YubiKey in the Home page.

  2. Click on “Certificates” and it will open the Certificates tab. From this menu you can import a PKCS#12 file into the YubiKey. Select a slot to import a certificate into, such as the 9c Digital Signature slot.

  3. A tab on the right will open once you select a slot. Click on Import file to import a certificate. A file browser window will be opened. Please select the .p12 certificate you wish to import using this window.

  4. You will be prompted for the password of the .p12 certificate you wish to import.

  5. Upon inputting the password and clicking on Unlock, the Yubico Authenticator will display the information of the certificate so you can confirm that it is the correct one. After confirming the certificate, click on Import to import it.

  6. Once the certificate is successfully imported, it will show up in the slot that it has been imported into.
